What the difference 24 hours makes ... in graphic design...

So when I have ideas for new layout, I try them out BEFORE the actually see the light of day on paper of on a computer. I am guess that is very typical for graphic designers and art directors like Rick Hershey, @Marc Radle at Kobold Press or Sarah Robinson at Paizo. So instead of keeping that progress in the dark, I thought I might show you and cover idea are am working on with a new adventure series tentatively called Strange World.

As you see it is kind of a split cover where you could use one piece of art and split it OR take two pieces of art and use it. But like I said I am just working out some ideas here. Who knows what the final version will look like. Enjoy!

See what the difference 24 hours can make...

Crisis of the World Eater cover ideas

This post was originally up at the Louis Porter Jr. Design Facebook page, but I thought it would be good to have this over here:

When I was thinking of the Crisis of the World Eater campaign serial as a whole from a graphic design point of view, I knew i would have to dig deep to find the right cover concept to give the series the look I wanted. I went through my Pinterest account looking for something and after a while to find it. Now while this center image in all these images is for placement only, it does give you the idea of what you can expect on the final release.

So after looking at these images, who should we hire to recreate this piece for our Crisis of the World Eater Kickstarter? Please let us know. Thanks!

NeoExodus Android artwork process

I just wanted to show you how we develop artwork for our projects. It starts with a rough draft, then we clean up the draft's design. We then move to the coloring stage and finally we do the FINAL coloring of the artwork. As you see something work form the beginning, while other get killed and sometimes brought back. Just something I though you might enjoy. Talk to you later...

The image that made me want to create Pirates of the Bronze Sky...

This image describes it all. You do have to think about it. You understand what is going on with one simple piece of artwork. And with that image, Pirates of Bronze Sky was born.  Now I have to finish it some day.  Talk to you later...

Cross of Fire Saga Update – Working on the Outline for the Adventures

So after talking with [REDACTED] about Cross of Fire Saga, I sat down and started creating a Visual and content online for the project manager and writer for this project. Not only will it have a description of the adventure but there will be tons of artwork of the individual involved. I really like this and I think I will be doing this more often when doing either adventure path adventures or large sized kickstarters like this one. I hope to show some sample pages of it when I complete it so you can get a little behind the scenes in to what it is to work on a project at this size and level. Talk to you later…

The NeoExodus Upgrade and Pricing

By now, I am sure many of you are familiar with the updates that I am making to the NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign Setting. With that, I am sure many of you who have bought the campaign book were happy to hear that we are doing an update. But at the same time, I am sure many of you didn’t want to have to buy a whole new book from something you just bought and I understand and feel for you. And with that I have come up with this plan.

First, this new update (which I keep calling the Ultimate Edition) all people who purchased the PDF version from DriveThruRPG.com, RPGNow.com, Paizo.com or D20PFSRD.com as a PDF, we will be updating your original PDF version with the new Ultimate Edition FOR FREE. As long as you have OR do purchase the NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign Setting, by the time we release the Ultimate Edition, you will get the update for free. The NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign Setting PDF book will be updated with the Ultimate Edition PDF online so all you will have to do is download the new version.

Second, the Print-On-Demand versions will be updated with new Ultimate Edition Print-On-Demand version in both black and white AND full color.  What the price of this books will be is currently not known but we hope to keep the price as low as possible and reasonable for you the consumer.

Third, we are adding more additional content and artwork to this new Ultimate Edition. I am “guesstimating” that we will be adding between 15 to 30% additional content compared to the original version. Anything we are adding are not about “destroying” work we have we already done. For example, we are adding alternative racial traits for all of the races. We are not changing their stated standard racial traits so those who have PCs made that don’t really miss out on anything but now they have more options for the future.

So if you are a NeoExodus fan or even interested, join ourFacebook page and see all the new and interesting add-ons, the new artwork and layout we are doing with this Ultimate Edition.  As always, thanks for the support. Talk to you later…

NeoExodus Layout Update

Here is the updated layout for the NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign Setting. As you can see we are adding a head shot to the racial trait boxes. This is something we did in Obsidian Apocalypse and I really like how is came out. What do you think?

My secret love affair with Pintrest…

For some reason, many people don’t know about my love affair with Pintrest. I LOVE Pintrest. It is the best site for any publisher looking to improve the look of their product and get GREAT design ideas. I mean, this sight is made for those people who are visually snobs like me.  Just search the term "Pathfinder" and you will get tons of the covers that the folks of Paizo have done from the mock-up covers to the final released versions. Just search "comic book covers" and you will get a LOT of ideas of how exciting a cover should be. I mean just look at Uncanny X-Men 141. It is one of the most iconic covers in the history of comics. Why? Just look at it and there is your answer.   So if you want to get inspired do yourself a favor and join Pintrest and even checkout my page. You will be glad you did. Talk to you later…

Cross of Fire Saga - Mock up covers for the Kickstarter

To help with the creation process of the Cross of Fire Saga, I needed to create mock up covers that help me focus on what I am looking to see in this adventure path. This part of development, the visual and graphic design, creation is important to me to help understand what I am actually doing.  It is one thing for a lone writer who develop and create that only exist in their loner head don't normally do. It is completely different to get people involved to see what is in your head and make it exciting for them. That is what I am doing with the graphic design part. I am taking my mind's eye and letting you have a peak int to in.  While these are mock up using stock art from our Obsidian Apocalypse book, you know with the title and design what I want you to feel with this series.

And of course I made the the 5th adventure cover idea, title and visual design.

Try it. It helps. Talk to you later...
