But... that's inaccurate... "I'm attempting to kill 4E by not purchasing products related to it!" would be more accurate, if still hyperbolic. I mean, drinking a cup of tea isn't killing coffee... or drinking a Coke isn't killing Pepsi. I ran Pathfinder for awhile, currently I'm running 4e. *shrug*
This is pretty much the most pathetic thing I have ever seen. Pathfinder fans should be RUNNING from this idea. It casts them all in a terribly ugly light.
LPJ, this is something you should feel actively ashamed of.
Wow, no one gets the reference. Personally I think it's great. It's a play on "I'm killing newspapers by reading webcomics" people.(http://www.pvponline.com/2009/03/17/youre-killing-newspapers-by-reading-this/) I know I'm killing the joke by explaining it, but it's ironic because it doesn't really happen. WOTC succeeds or fail on it's own merits. Same goes for Paizo and all the rest.
Personally I think Pathfinder helps keep the D&D brand alive, and therefor helps WOTC.
IMHO it jams the finger in the eye of those people who love the edition wars if you ask me.
@Michael: The PvP shirt has punch and works as a joke because people are actually saying things like that.
This shirt, though? I've never heard a single 4e fan gripe that Pathfinder is killing D&D. It's a non-issue on that "side". And on the Pathfinder side? We hear it all the time. It's practically a rallying cry. In fact, it's such a popular message among the Pathfinder crowd that the blog I was linked here by (http://jpchapleau.blogspot.com/2011/04/im-killing-4e-shirt.html) appears to have taken it totally seriously, with the owner calling the shirt a shot against 4e (NOT a shot against the edition wars).
There are plenty of really solid ways to make fun of the edition wars. Producing a shirt that is going to be seen as a rallying cry to a pack of rabid Pathfinder players hungry for the next cool thing in the hate-on-WotC department is NOT one of them.
How about: "I have found my preferred RPG. It is different than yours, but I'm glad that we're both enjoying the hobby!"
Seriously, what is this accomplishing? Some people like 4e, some people like pathfinder. 4e isn't for everyone, and neither is PF, but you don't have to be a douche about it.
Epic, I'd own it.
ReplyDeleteI want one. Put that on the front and on the back:
ReplyDelete3.5 > 4
I'd also like one, thanks. :)

Seriously? No. Just... no. It's juvenile and needlessly inflammatory.

@Jason: Agreed.

I might pick one of these up at PaizoCon Louis.
I like it. I'd tighten up the wording though, just
ReplyDeleteI'm Killing 4e
By Playing Pathfinder

No.
ReplyDelete@Scott +1. You hit it right on the head.
ReplyDeleteSomething more subtle would probably be more appropriate.
ReplyDeleteHow about something like:
"I played 4e, but then I Found the Path."
How about: "I have found my preferred RPG. It is different than yours, but I'm glad that we're both enjoying the hobby!"
