Magic Item Monday - Lifeblade & Spiderbane Oil

The Lifeblade
Aura: strong evocation            CL: 15th
Slot: weapon                           Price: 104,500 gp       Weight: 1 lb

The Lifeblade is a distillation of vast knowledge about how the raw energy of life itself may be manipulated and transferred. The Lifeblade is a +3 brilliant energy shortsword. It’s flat, leaf-shaped blade is finely marbled steel ad gleams silvery white in the light. When wielded, the blade transforms into a bastion of vaguely pink energy and pulses in time with the beat of the wielder’s heart.

As a standard action, the wielder can voluntary suffer damage, as the blade absorbs some of his life energy to produce magic missiles. The wielder casts magic missile as a sorcerer of his total character level, but suffers 1d4 points of damage per missile fired. The wielder may attempt a DC 20 WILL Save to halve the damage inflicted by the lifeblade.

Construction Requirements: Craft Magic Arms & Armor, magic missile
Cost: 52,250 gp

Spiderbane Oil
Aura: faint transmutation       CL: 4th
Slot: potion/oil             Price: 400 gp  Weight: 1 lb

Swarms of millions of creeping, biting, stinging vermin are the bane of even the most heavily armored adventurer, which explains the development of this pungent and fairly unpleasant potion. When drunk, the user’s skin is covered in pebbly grey growths, rough enough to the touch to draw blood. For one hour after drinking the potion, the user takes no damage from swarms of her own Challenge Rating or less. More powerful swarms affect her normally.

Each round the swarm remains in the drinker’s space, it suffers 1d6 points of damage itself, as its member vermin shred themselves on the drinker’s magically roughened hide.
Construction Requirements: Brew Potion, barkskin
Cost: 200 gp
