[Obsidian Twilight] Rough sketchs of the Exalted

Well here is the rough sketches for for the fourth race in Obsidian Twilight, the Exalted. What are the Exalted...well let just say, they are ... well ... You know what. Let's just keep it a surprise until we release the project. Talk to you later...

  1. All of your races thus far appear rather boring. They are all human, and I am not getting the Dark Sun grim and gritty survival in a desolate world feel, nor the dark gothic Ravenloft feel. If this is a world where players can only play human like PCs, I know I will pass. Sorry if I seem jaded, but I know you better than wanting a yes man on here drooling fan boy drivel. Look at the art presentation of the now defunct Red Spire Press 3.5 world Dark Lagecies. The art spoke volumes for the world and that visual impression drew you into the text. Tha is why I threw down a chunck of change on a dead game. I expect alot from you man, and I hope this get better.

  2. Well first things first, I am glad you are looking at what we are doing on Obsidian Twilight but I have to laugh a little with some of the accusations of what you think is going on with the setting. You assume they are all human. Well they do have a humanoid form, but human, no they are not in the least bit. If you were a patron of this project you would have seen the outline we are working from in great detail of what is really going on behind the scenes. You say it does have a Ravenloft or Dark Sun “feel” to it, well maybe to you it does, but I can think of a few people who have the inside track on this that think different. But you can make up your own mind when Obsidian Twilight comes out. I will say one thing, as you stated Red Spire Press 3.5 world Dark Legacies is defunct. To me it seems that they made a great looking product that no one played. Why in the hell would I want to do what they did? They went out of business. I mean their book did so well it killed their company. Obsidian Twilight is going to look great, play great and be great. Have a little faith. All things will be revealed in due time.

  3. I can not attest to the reason why their game did not do well, the reasons are countless and may not be tied to their product and its sales. So try to be be so harsh. You know as well as I do that good art work that evokes the essence of the game leads to more sales over shit artwork. Your current artwork does not evoke the essence of a dark, desolate, gothic post apocolyptic setting. You are correst, I do not know the inside scoop - I have not paid for it yet - but what I can give you are my impressions, which, as a potential customer, may be so some value -- then again maybe not. Regardless, as you asked, have faith. I will try.

On another note, as to the comment you made on the PC races looking human but are not, I would rather play something exotic in appearance and in fuction. At this juncture, the races appear bland. Why are warforged, and drow, and dragonborn very popular races? Because they are exotic. I am not asking for quasi reptile, spider people with prehensile scopion like tails and bat wings -- I mean exotic can easilly cross into the silly -- but Darksun's core races were tweaked to be more exotic and different. Even Darksun humans had a bestial bent to them. Ravenloft had undead. Where are the exotic types in Obsidian Twilight?

Again for me a bunch of humnan looking PCs with odd powers - why not play Exalted. What is going to set you apart, why is this going to be unique. At the moment its same old to me sadly, and I want it to be great so you can make an assload of cash!

  4. Sorry if I came off a little harsh on that last comment of mine. Actually, I really like your comments Anathematician. You always keep me honest and asking myself, "Is this cool enough?" Personally I like humaniod forms, they make it easy for the people playing to relate to what they are playing. But I will say there are some very traditional type races for this setting, while they are also some VERY DIFFERENT races too. What I am trying to do is re-invision what Dark Sun and Ravenloft should be. Both of those setting were made in 1990, nearly 20 years ago. What I am looking to do with Obsidian Twilight is what the first (and only) Matrix move did visiually for science fiction movies.

We have two more races to reveal, so maybe they might be more in line of what you will like to play. Just stay with us, it will all be revealed soon.
