2nd 4-star review for NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign Setting

Looks like NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign Setting is moving in the right direction with it's second 4-star review. And here is the line that really says it all for me:

Overall an inspired product that I would recommend as a new campaign or (as I plan to do) an add-on to an existing campaign. The rpg community needs fresh ideas and concepts, which push the bounds of the "norm". And this pdf does just that. A solid effort.

LPJ Design Business Judo: Doing the Clockworker right for NeoExodus

 A few weeks ago, we at LPJ Design were also discussing about adding a steampunk influenced class to the NeoExodus setting since the Arman Protectorate with their golems and warmachines seemed having it only logical.  While in the middle of our discussion, Headless Hyrda Games came up with the product the Clockworker.  This was a class they were looking to use in their Mor Aldenn setting to add the genre of steampunk to their setting.  This was perfect for us.  This would give us a chance to see what the Pathfinder fanbase wanted to so, compare some good ideas based on what they did and what worked and what didn’t. Initially it got some 4 and 5 star reviews that got me very interested, but then there were some comments on the Paizoboard that got me little worried about this actual quality of the product.  But then the one name in reviews that I always trust, Thilo Graf, commented on the product giving it a 2 star review. 

Now I have been on the receiving end of Thilo Graf 2 starreview many times (hard but honest and fair reviewing) so that was enough to interest me to purchase the product.  Now while there were issues, I did find enough quality material to see where the designer was going and what they wanted to do.  So based on the work that was done, the reviews and commentary, I decided that we would use the Clockworker as our guide to create our "steampunk" influenced class.  

While I like steampunk as a genre and concept, I never really though it made sense in a magic based setting.  So instead of focusing the “steampunk” quality of it, I wanted to focus on the engineering and scientific methodology of the technology as the magical element.  I was inspired by the Marvel comic series S.H.I.E.L.D. which focuses on the great scientific minds in Earth's history including Galileo Galilei, Leonardo Da Vinci and Nikola Tesla as the basis for the story, in turn as a basis for this new class. And with the quote from Authur C. Clark, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” I knew this would be great for the creation our new base class, the Machinesmith.

Best of all with using the Clockworker’s OGL material as the basis of the Machinesmith class I could avoid a few of the missteps that were discovered during it first draft that Headless Hydra Games release.  Sometimes it’s better to be second.  Talk to you later…

One month since NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign setting was released and still no reviews

OK this one is going to be short and to the point: Why hasn't ANYONE reviewed NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign Setting. I mean I have not seen anything on this book. Good or bad.  All I hear is the sound of silence. Which is funny. because on the business side of this all I hear is the cash register ringing from all the people who picked it up. This books is a solid seller for us, BUT it has NO REVIEWS.  I know this book is the best setting on the market for Pathfinder. I know our book looks beautiful. I know we have made a successful product. What I don't know is what we did do wrong or what did we miss or better yet what did we leave out that you wanted to see?

The really weird part to all this is we sent out review copies of this book a few weeks before we released the sale version so reviewers have had this book for over six weeks.  So come on people don't let me twist and turn and get tied into knots over the Christmas season over this book, give us a review. I wonder why Pathfinder reviewer Megan Robertson hasn't reviewed LPJ Design products in a while...

What do you think it could be.  I have sent her all our our latest Pathfinder materials, but the last time she reviewed anything from us was February 27 of this year.  Maybe we did something wrong and she is mad at us? I don't think so.  Maybe she wants to wait until she gets the NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign Book (coming out soon) to review that? Video Reviews of The Thank You Economy, Enchantment and Poke the Box

Since I just finished reading Poke the Box and I want to do a review I just happened to be at Chris Brogan's website and I noticed that he hard already done a review for it but also The Thank You Economy and Enchantment, I decided why not put his reviews up instead.  Which is what I did. Great reviews, No sales...

As someone involved in  publishing, this is the one that always kind of irks me.  You keep hearing about these great games, everyone loves them, they win all these awards and then a few months later, the company closes down or they never release a follow up product to this "new line" of RPG products.  This seems to happen a LOT of places.  The Oscars. The Emmys. The Harvey Awards. The Ennies. Things get great reviews, but not that many people have actually seen it.  Hell even my personal favorite, The Wire, falls under this.  When the quality is high and the people should want to purchase or pay to see or do, they don't.  Are the reviews wrong? Or even better, do reviews actually matter?  Talk to you later...

Wow.  Not even a "hello" , "my name is..." or "I really am a fan of your products...".  Here was my response:

I don't give out free copies of products for people to review. If people are really interested in the product they purchase it then review what they purchased. To me, if you purchase a copy you can tell if people were really interested in the product that they purchased or just want a free copy of your product. Thank you for your time.

...Are you [BLEEPING] kidding me?

Why do people think they are doing me a favor by asking for a free copy of my PDF products and tell me they will review it?  Why don't you let me spend your paycheck and tell you if I bought good things with it.  WTF?!?!?!?!?! 

Just to be fair and give him something for free, I did send him a full page ad for Obsidian Twilight.  I think he will enjoy that.  Talk to you later...

It looks like people seem to like what we are doing with Sidetrek Adventure Weekly. I am STILL waiting to read a review of the setting on RPGNow.com, I would like to read something. I know people like it, I think. I get e-mails about how much people like it, but no one has reviewed it yet. Well I guess I will have to keep waiting.
