I gave Sean K Reynolds $50 and ripped me a new one for it…

Apparently everything I hear about Sean K Reynolds was true. Highly skilled. Very professional. Someone you can learn from. I learnt this they hard way when I signed up for his RPG Design ClassesSimply put for $50 you could have a one on one class with SKR where he would critique you game design so you could get better if you were interested in submitting for Paizo’s RPG Superstar. Now I don’t plan on submitting to RPG Superstar but I know getting a direct critique of my design work from a person at SKR level could only be helpful to me. Better still, talking with SKR would give me a better understanding of what Paizo would be looking for in its submissions. So I paid the money; did what he told me to do and submitted my item. And waited to hear back from him. A few days later, I heard back from him with comments on my submitted items and when I finished reading I had to check to see if I was bleeding for a specific orifice. Because it felt like he used his whole arm on me with his review on my work.

The two words that describe best what happened was: Painful and Insightful.

Maybe you didn't know but SKR is VERY good at is game design. I did know he is very good at it, but I did know he was THAT good at it.

After I recovered from the initial shock and trauma of the email, I really sat down a looked at what he did say and he was right.  He explained it in great lengthy detail and he gave me a better understanding of what I was REALLY trying to make and what I did right and what I did very, VERY wrong. Just reading SKR’s email, I think I got a better insight on Paizo as a company and what they expected from game designers and developers. I must say what I learned it this once little interaction was WELL WORTH the money I spent. Better still, I can’t wait until we do the monster design. I have a monster that I think is simple and cool and I can’t wait to see what SKR does to it.

So if you are thinking about doing Paizo RPG Superstar, you might want to spend $50 and get AMAZING insight from someone who understands what Paizo is looking for better than you EVER will. Now while I may never use this information on submitting to RPG Superstar, I will be using the knowledge to help advance LPJ Design as a 3PP to make my product EVEN better and make my company much, much stronger. Every first time publisher AND even long term 3PP should sign up for this class, because it is THAT important.  My $50 investment in SKR is going to make me A LOT of money in the long term and I call that a good investment for myself and LPJ Design. Talk to you later…

Crisis on Infinite Earths + ?????? = Next AWESOME kickstarter

I am looking over the economical formulas to see if the (hopefully upcoming) Crisis on Infinite Earths plus ?????? (Thought of an AMAZING add-on to the original concept) influenced can be done for a reasonable price. We are looking to pay the most we have every paid for writers ($0.08 a word) due to the fact that we need several very high end writers planned to work on this. We are looking for the word count of the AP to reach 80K. That with the amount of artwork we are looking to have (roughly 160 different pieces including covers, headshot and half page images), this Kickstarter is going to have to be $35,000.  And that just covers the the 4 APs.

Let not even talk about the 20 "sidetrek / starter adventures" (roughly 100K words in length) that we would like to have this kickstarter. Now add in, I am going to have LOTS of other 3PP material added to this kickstarter. So this gets bigger and bigger.

Best of all, When this AP is finished, there should be a campaign setting that I am going to make 100% OGL for any and all 3PP to use and build from. I am going to include some of the artwork and make it 100% Open content to use. Sounds crazy? It is. Is it possible? HELL YES!!!!! Now I have to call Owen KC Stephens to see if I am crazy as I think I am. Talk to you later...

T minus 21 Days until the start of the Cross of Fire Saga Adventure Path Kickstarter for Pathfinder

The time ticks closer to the start of the the Cross of Fire Saga Adventure Path Kickstarte for Pathfinder Role Playing Game. Today we learn more about the actual start to the adventure, Havoc of the Mind’s Eye by 2014 RPG Superstar Victoria Jaczko.

Part 1: Havoc of the Mind’s Eye
BLOOD AND TERROR AWAIT

Nothing is as it seems in the blasted countryside surrounding the insular fortress-town of Lockgate. For weeks, the people there--locals and outsiders alike--have been terrorized by a creature they only know as the Beast. It strikes fast and vanishes, leaving behind mutilated corpses to find. The town’s lord has issued a reward for the death of the beast and a band of monster hunters have answered. The seer traveling with the PCs leads them straight into the heart of this mystery where it becomes quickly evident there is more at work than a simple ravaging monster. Can the PCs unearth the true source of Lockgate’s horror?

Havoc of the Mind’s Eye is an investigative horror adventure for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. The scenario is designed for four 9th level PCs, and is suitable as a single horror tale or as the second episode of the Cross of Fire saga. By the end of the adventure, the PCs will either die screaming or reach 10th level.

We keep giving you more and more twist and turns in this adventure path. Giving you a chance to understand the world of Abaddon and the Obsidian Apocalypse campaign setting better and better. Fans of Pathfinder and the horror genre in general will find the Cross of Fire Saga Adventure Path not only to be fun and exciting it will be revolutionary to what they are normally use to see. Talk to you later…
