I wonder what [Insert gaming professional] will think about this…

Very often, I get an idea that I think is great but I know well enough that I need to get a second opinion on. The reason for that is because lots of things sound great in your head and become absolutely crap-tastic when they get on paper. So the idea that I am working with if from a blog post I did called, “Taking a chance on getting the kinks out of the Androids...” and I came up with this simple little idea: Robots looking for the “truth of things” and who are religious fanatics about gambling and taking a chance.

But I don’t want to get response from just ONE gaming professional, I want to get response from A LOT of gaming professionals. So here is my question to you gaming professionals out there: What do you think about this android / robot / construct idea in a fantasy setting? There are no wrong answers (Clinton Boomer and Owen I am talking to you) just interesting ideas. Talk to you later…

Should we add Jen Page to our kickstarter?

One of the writers working on the Cross of Fire Saga Adventure Path suggested that we ask and use Jen Page as one of the character for the adventure. This writer is friends with Jen Page so they informed me if that was something I wanted to do he could talk to her.  I know who Jen Page is but just generally and not very well, so I am a bit hesitant of asking her to model for a character.  So when I am in doubt, I just ask our fans what they think. So here I go: Should we approach, offer and add Jen Page to our upcoming kickstarter?  Let me know what you think and thanks!

I guess my age and mind are finally catching up to each other…and not in a good way

I guess I can announce this because I need your help.

I apparently assigned some work for my upcoming Cross of Fire Saga Adventure Path. What I assigned was three magic items that we created for the donors as a “secret item add-on” that we were going to give away to all the donors. I assigned it to the writer and sent them to do the work.  Sounds simple right?

Just one thing, I have forgotten what writer I assigned this project. That is right I CAN NOT REMEMBER WHO I ASSIGNED THIS TO. Apparently I am suffering from Alzheimer over this.  I have gone through my list of normal writers, and I still can’t remember who I assigned this. So if you are the writer that I sent this to send me an email and remind me and send the draft of the work. Thanks.

And for all you laughing at me; Hey don’t laugh. It could happen to you. Talk to you later…

Six Months without Carla...

I don't care what anyone says, it doesn't get easier. It only get tougher, because you miss them more each day. Nothing is worst than an empty bed without the love of your life in it. I have been living my personal worst nightmare and it doesn't get better. I wish I could have one more hour with you. I miss you Carla. Each and every moment. Talk to you later...

Are Necromancer Games being opportunistic or smart business people?

I just saw that Necromancer Games is doing a kickstarter, NecromancerGames: Back for 5th Edition! and the first thought that came to mind was: They are doing it again. Necromancer Games has created their market based on the following line (with this variation): 5th Edition Rules, 1st Edition Feel. I LOVE this marketing. It does several things at once: Connect the players who don’t care about the edition wars and just want quality material; Touches old school gamers who love the classic adventures and materials from TSR; New player who always wanted to play the classic material and understand why it is so exciting; And best of all, it can be updated each time a new edition comes out and you STILL remember their marketing.  Smart, smart and SMART!

But are they just really just resting on their former successes and not doing anything new or exciting? This is their “first kickstarter”  if you see their bio on Kickstarter but their relationship with Frog GodGames is well know and documented. What is this kickstarter giving us: 5th Edition Foes which will have between 200-250 additional creatures, beasts, monsters and titans to challenge your players and enhance your adventures! I wonder how many of these will be from their Tomb of Horrors books? Book of Lost Spells will have hundreds of new spells to enhance your 5th edition spell casters and NPCs but will they be updated 3rd, 3.5, 4E and Pathfinder spells for this newest edition.  In addition, with their LONG TERM relationships with many WOTC staffers, you have to wonder how much 5th edition material they have seen and know about before it August release? I mean the kickstarter started July 6, with is running from July 6 until September 4 (60 days) and the products will be released November 2014. That seems like a pretty fast development to release schedule, well at to me.

So now we come back to the original question: Are Necromancer Games being opportunistic or smart business people? It seems like they are being both and that IS A GOOD THING! Any business, who wants to be smart and successful over a long period of time, should use any and all advantages they might possess. Necromancer Games is doing this and if you are complaining that they are doing this, maybe you should think about doing this for yourself and see how this might help your business. The only thing that separates you from success is air and opportunity. So, get to work.  Talk to you later…

Taking a chance on getting the kinks out of the Androids...

I am still working on the concept of androids for NeoExodus and then I can up with an idea that I originally had planned for another race that was originally based off of Senson Girl of the Legion of Super Heroes. Her original powers of illusion generation were enhanced giving her the ability to see beyond the illusions of life (such as the "illusions" of distance and physical obstacles). I like this idea and could work very cool of a race; This ability plues the ability of her teammate, Dawnstar whose unique powers include the ability to track life forms and objects across light years of distance and through interstellar space; could have interesting effects on a game. I think the idea of the androids always looking for the “truth” of things that can be a cool piece of fluff that can have interesting game mechanics attached to it.

Add on to that a concept that I saw once while watching the sci-fi tv show, Space: Above and Beyond that artificial Intelligent robots, which were called Silicates (I love that name. The Silicates referred to humans Carbonites) rebel from their human creators on a simple concept created by an engineer programming a simple line of code that gave them the ability , “Taking a chance” or simply take risk that a machine would not logically do. The artificial intelligent robots then become fascinated with the idea of taking a risk and gambling. It becomes their religion to them. What a concept: Robots looking for the “truth of things and who are religious fanatics about gambling and taking a chance. I wonder where we will be able to go with that idea. Talk to you later…
