Cross of Fire Saga - Inspiration for the Adventure Path

So I am working on the outline for the Cross of Fire Saga Adventure Path and I keep getting stuck on what I want in the adventure and what to expect from the people playing. So since I could not really get exactly what I wanted I decided to do the one thing that helps a writer, I get inspiration from better more qualified work.  So I thought about what type of stories I wanted each of the adventures in their adventure path to tell and I went to movies / books that I thought would help explain what I want. And with that, here is a breakdown of the books / movies we will be using for inspiration:

Part 1: Havoc of the Mind’s Eye – Inspired by the movie, Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Part 2: Ravagers of the Shadow Black – Inspired by the book & movie, Last of the Mohicans

Part 3: Raiders of the Cataclysm – Inspired by the Lord of the Flies

Part 4: Crusaders of the Cross of Fire – [REDACTED]

So now you see where I am coming from. Talk to you later…

[LPJ Design] Treasure of NeoExodus: Twin Furies for The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Now available

Louis Porter Jr. Design, has released Treasure of NeoExodus: Twin Furies for The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game at RPGNow.com and DriveThruRPG.com. Here is information on this product:

The religion of the dark god Khayne is divided and scattered, with each small cult worshiping their bloody lord after their own malicious fashion. One of the largest cults in the Brotherhood of Khayne—as well as the most ruthless and organized—is the Untharan Brotherhood, a monastic order in which adherents practice draconian discipline, ritual bloodletting, and the art of war. While they spend much of their efforts aiding the rest of the Brotherhood in fending off the quickslavers, members of this order have occasionally clashed with the forces running the Imperial blockade of the islands of Unthara, wielding weapons of terrifying power. Among these weapons are the Twin Furies, a matched pair of kamas that focus the hatred of Khayne into a fierce presence upon the battlefield.

The Treasure of NeoExodus: Twin Furies is created for use with your NeoExodus: A House Divided campaign setting home gaming for the Pathfinder RPG. The Treasures of NeoExodus series focus on creating unique and interesting magical and mundane items that you can use in your NeoExodus home games that give you more a personal connection to the item. This PDF comes with a background and history of the Twin Furies, its special mundane and/or magical qualities plus magic item containing detailed information and blank versions of the cards. Everything you need to incorporate Twin Furies into your character’s background and your gaming sessions is here making them even more appealing, special and personal.

The sanctity of the world known as Abaddon was shattered when a global apocalyptic event of a meteor impacting the planet causing a destructive ecological and eldritch change. Now there is no day or night, just never ending Apocalypse.  Races of Obsidian Apocalypse: Flesh and Iron adds four new races to the Obsidian Apocalypse campaign setting making the world even more interesting and just as dangerous. Are you willing to take up the fight?
Inside this book you will find you will find four new races for Races of Obsidian Apocalypse: Flesh and Iron:

Promethean (Flesh and Clockwork): Prometheans suffer lingering mental effects from their creation rites. The flesh prometheans have a personality made from an amalgam of souls, cobbled together from various creatures. Clockwork prometheans have the luxury of a solitary mind, but the creation rites cause them as much torment as they do to their flesh-bound cousins.
Raijin: When an outraged spirit of one slain by the undead lords of Abaddon possesses a survivor filled with desires for revenge, the two form a powerful and terrifying force, a raijin. A synergy of life and death, it can reach into the netherworld and manifest some powers of the dead in the physical world.
Uzamati: The only uzamati trait that stands out in their normal form is the purple irises of their eyes. But, when an uzamati phases out, all semblance of normalcy disappears. They melt into pure negative energy, becoming twisted in the process: Their skin turns a deep purple and exudes a strong glow. Their bodies become slightly transparent and gaunt as a skeleton.
Over 20 new feats for these races including Amplify Negative Energy, Monstrous Body Parts, Necromantic Phasing, Spectral Wall and Weapon Graft.

Cross of Fire Saga - Stealing a GOOD idea, that I already used…

I was at kickstarter looking at projects that are running and I came across Shane Hensley’s East Texas University - Savage Worlds. I noticed that he did something that I have seen a few kickstarters do. He has focused on doing threshold hold goals based on the amount of donor to the kickstarter.  I liked this idea and I used this on a few of my kickstarters. It is a good idea that is a great way to motivate people to join your kickstarter. And since it is such a great idea, I am “stealing” it to use in my Cross of Fire Saga Adventure Path. And with that is change what people are going to get as donors and threshold goal.  And with that here is the “new” donor and threshold rewards list:

Cross of Fire Saga - The Cross of Fire Saga Logo rough draft part 2

The rough draft of the Cross of Fire Saga logo. Still needs a little photoshop work with it, but you get the idea. Talk to you later...

What is the next Toolkit Campaign for Obsidian Apocalypse? Here is a hint…

I was talking to Rich Redman and I made him two offers of things I would be interested to write for Obsidian Apocalypse and he picked #1 over #2. While I am not going to tell you “exactly” what we are doing, but here is where we are getting a lot of inspiration from:

The city of Manifest rests atop ruins from ancient times and far above the entrance to the land of the dead. Here, the world of the living is shared equally with the deceased, who linger in physical form before finally passing through the Veil. Whether currently living or dead, residents and visitors are assured of an eternity of action and intrigue.

I guess it is time to start saving some money. Talk to you later…

Cross of Fire Saga – No Drow Allowed

When I first created the idea for doing the Cross of Fire Saga Adventure Path for the Ravenloft setting (I planned to submit it to Dungeon Magazine), the monsters I planned to use where Mind Flayers, Drow and Githyanki. Flash forward to NOW and I have replaced the Mind Flayers with Phrenic Scourge and the Githyanki with the Kaylethon. But the Drow I have been working on to fin the right monster to replace them. A few I thought of were the Neogi from Spelljammer or Exodites from NeoExodus, but nothing has made me super excited. So here I am stuck with no replacement. Maybe something will come up or maybe someone will suggest something. Time will see. Talk to you later…

Cross of Fire Saga - Mock up covers for the Kickstarter

To help with the creation process of the Cross of Fire Saga, I needed to create mock up covers that help me focus on what I am looking to see in this adventure path. This part of development, the visual and graphic design, creation is important to me to help understand what I am actually doing.  It is one thing for a lone writer who develop and create that only exist in their loner head don't normally do. It is completely different to get people involved to see what is in your head and make it exciting for them. That is what I am doing with the graphic design part. I am taking my mind's eye and letting you have a peak int to in.  While these are mock up using stock art from our Obsidian Apocalypse book, you know with the title and design what I want you to feel with this series.

And of course I made the the 5th adventure cover idea, title and visual design.

Try it. It helps. Talk to you later...

And the review is in for Obsidian Apocalypse!!!

And for all the work we did on Obsidian Apocalypse from all the great names like JP Chapleau, Kalyna Conrad, Eric Hindley, Jeff Lee, Owen K.C. Stephens, Richard Pett, Rich Redman, Louis Porter Jr., James Desborough, Robert “Bob” E. Drouin, Wojciech “Drejk” Gruchala, Nick Herold, Sam Hing, Michael McCarthy, Jonathan Palmer and Richard Pett, I think this review is the most satisfying with this paragraph:

I was honestly skeptical when I backed the Kickstarter back in the day – and am thoroughly glad I did. I’m not kidding when I say that this is a whole new beast that rectifies just about all of the issues of its predecessor and adds vast amounts of awesomeness on top. My final verdict will clock in at 5 stars + seal of approval – and, since I didn’t manage to get the review done in time in 2013, this one now is a candidate for my Top Ten of 2014. If you’ll excuse me, I have an endtimes-scenario to plan…

Once again I have to thank everyone who supported us on this and all the people who worked it. This could not have been done without you.
