Just sent the Obsidian Apocalypse book to print so I am
guessing we will hear back VERY SOON about it process (thank you Print on
demand and CreateSpace.com). So for
those who have been waiting for their printed copies, your waiting has paid
off. Better still, I will be sending out the survey about your address and
where we are mailing them some time later this week (for all the people that supported our Kickstarter). So with everything going on, I get to end the
year 2013 on a business high note. As always, thank you for your support of
this project and LPJ Design in general.
Talk to you later…

How to do psychological horror based adventure material in a fantasy RPG setting…
So I am looking over stuff at TV Tropes and I keep thinking
about doing a variation on the Cabin in the Woods for Obsidian Apocalypse. Obsidian
Apocalypse is definitely survival horror, while Cabin in the Woods is torture
porn. Is there some way to mix both of the concepts into a work able RPG
fantasy based adventures? I have to say, this interest me about attempting
something so crazy a difficult for RPGs. I mean horror is hard to pull off in
RPG because the moods need to be right. Attempting some crazy cross between
torture porn and psychological horror only makes it crazier and extremely difficult.
There are SO MANY cool horror films I would LOVE to attempt as adventure (Hello
Perfect Blue and Serial Experiments Lain I am talking to you) but how to do it
right. I might have to get additional
input from others. So what do you think:
Is it possible to do psychological horror based adventure material in a fantasy
RPG setting? Let us know. Talk to you
later…

Suffering through Writer’s Block….
Apparently with everything going on in my life, I am also suffering
through my first case of Writer’s Block.
In my entire life I have never had this happen to me so this is a quite
interesting and frustration situation. I mean I can not seem to put together
something that excites me to develop and write about. I mean I get tons of ideas, but none of them
seem exciting and interesting enough to get me to place pen to paper. I mean the most interesting thing I have come
up in the last few months has been doing a Japanese Samurai mash-up version of
the Three Musketeers. While I am sure many of you might think that is a good
start (and I agree it is a good start) it still needs more. What is the more I
need? I have no idea but I am still working it out. If you didn’t know, my creative process
starts from the concept of, “It is X plus Y to equal Z”. But it has to be more!!! This technique gets you started, but it is
the end of it. You need to develop it all the way out to pitch it to people to
get their feedback.
A great sample of this is the Max Landis pitch that he didon the Nerdist. If you
have not heard it go listen and then come back.
Now after listening to that pitch by Max Landis, I bet you
are excited and inspired to go work. So
am I. I just wish I could put something together to be as exciting. I guess I
will have to work through this, no matter how long it takes. Talk to you later…
