The second taste of the all new Grand Theft Exodus webcomic

Since I have not really put out anything for Grand Theft Exodus in a while I decided to show you the 2nd page with the blur effect.

Not really much to see, but you can get the idea. Also we have gotten in pages 3 & 4 for the artist and they need a little touch-up work and a few changes but all in all very good.  Now I just need to find a good letterer like Nate Piekos from Blambot or the guys over at Comicraft and that would be AWESOME. But there are a lot of letterer out there, beginners and experts, who would like more work. Lets see how this goes.  Talk to you later...

We are looking to raise $2,500 with the Free RPG Day 2013 NeoExodus Adventure for Pathfinder Kickstarter

Just in case you were wondering our magic number is $2,500.

This is what we are looking to reach to make out 2nd Free RPG Day attempt a success. While not a lot of money in the scheme of the world and big business, but at LPJ Design that this might as well be a millions dollars, since we don’t have that either. Last year, we made our goal and I was worrying and sweating it out about us reaching out money. It reminded me of waiting for my son to be born, very stressful and not sure what was going to happen.  In the end it turn out OK in both cases.

But this is the second time around and now I know a few things I did not know the first time and with that we are asking for $2,500. This will give us everything we want and what looking for this this kickstarter.  Since we have the amount I wanted to see the “somewhat” final rewards list I have come up for this kickstarter:

Pledge $1 or more - Peasant: All donors at this level will receive a personal thank you from Louis Porter Jr. on supporting this project and a computer desktop wallpaper background of the iconic characters created by the LPJ Design NeoExodus: A House Divided artists.

Pledge $5 or more - Commoner: As per the Peasant with the addition of all donors at this level will get access to the playtest copy of the book.

Pledge $90 or more - Imperial Aristocrat: As per the Imperial Nobel, with the addition of all donors at this level will receive an exclusive NeoExodus: A House Divided T-Shirt. Nobody but Kickstarter supporters will get this shirt (You’ll need to give us your size). (This includes domestic US shipping - International customers please add $20 for shipping)

Pledge $115 or more - Imperial Janissary: As per the Imperial Aristocrat, with the addition of all donors at this level will receive an addition of a full-color, Limited Edition of NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign Setting. This edition is a Kickstarter exclusive. (This includes domestic US shipping - International customers please add $20 for shipping)

Like I said at the start, $2,500 is the number we need to hit for this to be a success and help increase the interests in Pathfinder. Thanks for your support.  Talk to you later…

DC Heroes Omni-Gadget and why I want something like this for Pathfinder especially for Machinesmith

Roughly two years ago, Playing D&D with Porn Stars did a post on one of my favorite aspects from the DC Heroes RPG, the Omni-Gadget. Simply put the Omni-Gadget is a device that could be used emulate a power at a certain level.  The created it with the reason of how does Batman carry the exact item he needs at that exact moment like Shark Repellent in his utility belt? Omni-Gadget answers that.  I have always like the concept of this device for superhero RPGs and I have felt it would work VERY well for the Machinesmith in Pathfinder. I need a quick gadget? Then make it with Omni-Gadget it. These would be one-shot items that you could use in a clutch.  Yes I know it sounds like a “spell in a can” because it IS a “spell in a can”. Personally I would limit any Omni-gadget to a 2nd level spell or lower. This is one of those things I think if done well could be VERY cool, but of course would have to be very limited to keep the games balance. What do you think about creating an Omni Gadget for Pathfinder? Is it too powerful? Too game braking? I would love to hear what other people think.  Talk to you later…

New Kickstarter reward idea to help recruit new donors

On one of the websites or blogs focusing on kickstarter that I visit, someone suggested a new way they were using to gain new donors and reward donors for bring them in. I liked the idea so much I modified it and plan to use in in out upcoming kickstarter, what do you think about it?

Go recruiting for the Free RPG Day 2013 NeoExodus Adventure for Pathfinder RPG kickstarter!

Here is a great way to get some free stuff for helping make this kickstarter a success. If you back the Free RPG Day 2013 NeoExodus Adventure for Pathfinder RPG kickstarter at the Imperial Man-At-Arms ($35) level or higher and you recruit a new backer at Imperial Civilian ($20) or higher—have that backer contact me! If they confirm that you referred them to for this kickstarter, I’ll send you a $5 credit to use to purchase any of LPJ Design’s over 500+ PDF products.

Furthermore, if you recruit at least 5 new backers at the Imperial Man-At-Arms ($35) level or higher, I automatically bump your reward to the next reward level! For example, if you pledged Imperial Elder ($50) and got 5 new backers, you get the rewards of an Imperial Nobel ($65) backer.

Better still, if you recruit an additional 5 new backers at the Imperial Man-At-Arms ($35) level or higher, we will automatically increase your reward level by and additional reward level. So if you pledged Imperial Elder ($50), and recruited 10 backers at the Imperial Man-At-Arms ($35) level or higher, you get the rewards of an Imperial Aristocrat ($90) backer.

So, if you have friends in your local game group who haven’t jumped onto Free RPG Day 2013 NeoExodus Adventure for Pathfinder RPG kickstarter yet, now’s a great time.

If you have questions about this, please feel free to drop us an email or in the comment section.

The gatekeepers to 3PP of Pathfinder

I was reading this thread on Paizo and it got me kind of interested on seeing how many copies that said they were going to release product for Pathfinder but didn’t. I personally became interested and went over to the Compatibility License Registry to see how many people said they were going to start a 3PP for Pathfinder and did. Better yet how many were still in business.

I got 10% through the list and I stopped.

I was kind of a wast of time because SO MANY people signed up but released only one product and ever worst most released nothing.  If you head over to RPGNow.com and select Rule System Pathfinder, here is the list of companies that came up for me:

As you can see 15 companies that RPGNow.com feels are the most important / influential in the area of Pathfinder products.  I find this very interesting in the concept of gatekeepers.  To make it on to the list of 15 publishers you have to work very hard to keep producing product on a regular basis that fans are interested in.  But the really interesting part is the number of people who WANT to or PLANNED to create something for Pathfinder. Many of these people/companies produced nothing. While even fewer produced just one product and decided for some reason not to do more.  When you think about it on a small scale all you need to do is do as much work and the “number 15” on the list and you could release them on that list.  I mean that it isn’t really that difficult.  Fifteen others are doing it, so why can’t you. So why don’t you or better yet, why haven’t you? Talk to you later…

Two rewards ideas I have for the upcoming Free RPG Day 2013 NeoExodus Adventure for Pathfinder RPG Kickstarter

Since I have been working so hard on this over the last week in secret, I have decided to blog about two of the rewards I have bee thinking about doing for this upcoming Free RPG Day 2013 NeoExodus Adventure for Pathfinder RPG Kickstarter.  The first reward I have been thinking about for a while. I thought it was the perfect type of thing to offer to gamers and would find much use to them.  That was a tote bag. I like the idea of a tote bag after I say my local comic book store, Tate's Comics, offering them in their store.  I asked Tate about it and he got me in contact with the right people and here we are.  While it is very cool for gamers to carry their stuff, I also see it as advertising. When you see that picture of Widowmaker Scarlet on the from of the tote bag you have to look and ask, "What the hell is that?" And that is exactly the response we are looking to get from people.

The next thing that we want to offer as a rewards is the most basic item for any gamer to have and that is gaming dice. It is the one thing that gamers never seem to have enough of. We like that so we decided that maybe we need to help you with your dice addiction.  We are looking at one of two colors here: black dice with gold ink OR black dice with red ink.?  They both have positive reasons but we are going to have to pick only one of these.  I hope I can find more interesting thing to add to this Kickster to help increase the interest in what we are doing. Wish up luck.  Talk to you later...

Sample pages from Quartermaster Handbook for NeoExodus

Here is a image from the upcoming Quartermaster's Handbook for NeoExodus. I am still deciding if I want to add more material to this project, even though it is roughly almost 30 pages in length already.  I like the book we have created and a lot of people worked very hard on this book. Good to know we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel on this one. Talk to you later...

Encounter at Ramat Bridge - Play Report from Macquarie con

!!!SPOILER ALERT --- Do not read this post if you plan on playing Encounter at Ramat Bridge. This is your ONLY WARNING!!!!

This is an email that we received from Martin Blake who ran Encounter at Ramat Bridge as a Slot 0  for GMs running it at Macquarie con. Read an enjoy!

The session went very well, we played for 7.5 hours – with the first hour being a thorough introduction to Exodus and the pregen characters and then the players going through the pregens and getting to know them.  We also breaked for half-an-hour lunch, so the real playing time was 6 hours.  This was good as it allowed me to run all soft encounters as well.

The feedback was very positive, with everyone enjoying the setting and background.  The game played well, with some fun and "awesome" developments.  Afterwards, Alistair Rigg (Sydney VC) commented that this was one of, if not the best, organised play scenarios he had played!

In the end a couple of players dropped out and we ran with 3.  The group turned down the option of taking along a 4th iconic, and so went with Amne Isa Zara, Milka Bronislaw and Nose-Cutter.

I took time with the initial movement into the Protectorate and slowly gave the party the information gathered through the various knowledge checks.  Nose-cutter used his profession (soldier) skill well – getting information from the local militia about most professional units mustering at Zarynth.  Zara got some good background information from priests of the Sanguine Covenant along the way too.  Milka was good to have in the party as a native of the protectorate – and as no PC had knowledge (local) she put her regional affinity trait to good work.  Everyone agreed regional affinity is a nice touch and a good addition to NeoExodus legacies.

The PCs actually bluffed their way into Zarynth, with Zara offering her services as a healer allowing them to get past the initial road-block and spend a night in Zarynth before Captain Ilyanova asked them to leave the next day, telling them she had no need for their services.  The night in the town gave them more info and a certainty that something indeed was afoot!

The initial investigation of the massacre at Ramat Bridge went as planned.  The magical aura of the triggered magic mouth spell fading from the body of the priest worked well and kept the PCs on their toes thinking there was a spellcaster around.

The PCs opened the arsenal, thinking they could control anything within (they rescued some protectorate uniforms).  Unfortunately, the mobile cannons attacked and the party did well to limit damage from the 2 constructs.  The final cannon was reduced to exactly 0 HP – so I ruled that it was disabled and not destroyed.  Having the machinesmith in the party allowed Milka to spend an hour repairing the mobile cannon back to full HP and I ruled that she could use a knowledge (arcana)/spellcraft check to control them just like handle-animal with a combat trained creature.

This was one of the most "awesome" moments for the party.  They loved being able to get a mobile canon on their side, and they set it to "guard" the approach to the fort while they settled down for the night.
They had some good role-playing with the arrival of Calvill Emereth – not wholly trusting him, but taking him into the ruins for the night anyway.
Although the party set watches, they were all surprised/rudely awakened when the mobile cannon went off with a massive explosion as the first P'Tan levee got within the 60 foot range of the cannon's darkvision.  The first wave went pretty quickly, with the cannon doing a lot of the damage.

Imagine their surprise when the second wave has a rust monster!  Guess what he concentrated on? This wave was a lot more challenging and managed to get into melee with the cannon and manage to destroy the canon but deal little damage to the rest of the party.

The third wave was a different matter.  They initially took on the challenge of Ayayah, but nose-cutter threw a javelin at her and she went a bit nuts on him – with the Scythians rapidly crossing the bridge to join in.

The party really struggled with Ayayah – and I even completely forgot about here barbed defence and even after a couple of rounds I forgot about her DR too.  Even so they struggled to do damage to her and she kept putting nose-cutter down with deadly flurry-of-blows which kept Zara the cleric constantly on heal patrol.  The encounter lasted well over an hour, with Ayayah being the remaining enemy and the PCs being unable to defeat her – she ended up knocking all of the PCs unconscious, and I couldn't think of a good reason why they wouldn't kill them off.  So – a TPK in the first NeoExodus Legacies game in Australia!

It was actually a fitting end to the scenario – and the players all enjoyed it immensely.  They liked the Epilogue – it made them hungry for the next adventure.  I think having an epilogue like this is a really nice touch and helps to keep people interested and wanting to play more – please use these in the future too! So, all-in-all a very positive and encouraging for outing for Legacies down-under.

Thanks for the report on the first international NeoExodus Legacies event and which looks like it will not be the last.  Talk to you later...

[LPJ Design] New Organized Play NeoExodus Legacies Adventure The Shashenka Incident coming soon

We just got the NeoExodus Legacies adventure, Shashenka Incident written by Jonathan McAnulty (Rite Publishing super star writer of Coliseum Morpheuon and the upcoming Kaiden) in from the editor and it is moving on to layout. Pathfinder Society and other Organized Play fans expect to see this organized play adventure on sale sometime this month at RPGNow.com and Paizo.com. Here is the write-up of this adventure:

The small village of Sashenka finds itself in the path of an oncoming whirlwind. An invasion of a nearby country and a somewhat strategic location at the juncture of the Kyan and Abaddon Rivers made this community into a hotbed of intrigue. One particularly troublesome group is seeking to exploit the tensions and foment a greater war. An adventure for characters levels 5. This adventure follows elements of Encounter at Ramat Bridge.

Paizo just gave LPJ Design more ammunition as a 3PP

So I am looking through the Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Bestiary and I am thinking about what new terrors that I could extract from here and use in the NeoExodus Campaign Setting and then I see something that make me smile with glee: Android. They included Androids in this book. Better yet, the gave stats for it as a playable race.  I am sorry for those who might not know, I personally have always considered NeoExodus to be a sci-fi setting masquerading as fantasy. Many of NeoExodus tropes are usually expected to see in sci-fi genre based materials. So giving me an android race (when I have been thinking of way to incorporate one into NeoExodus) really helps expand some ideas and concepts that I wanted to add into this setting.  Once again, THANK YOU Paizo for always seeming to add the exact right thing I was looking for and making it OGL content that every 3PP of Pathfinder can use. Looks like NeoExodus might be getting a new race for the setting. Better yet, this ties is directly to our Machinesmith class and the upcoming NeoExodus Chronicles: The Hive sourcebook with Cyrix.    Once again, Thank you Paizo for always putting out innovative products.  Talk to you later...
