Every Pathfinder focused Kickstarter project has been successful since Dec 10, 2010

This was an interesting little fact that I just happen to notice while looking at new Pathfinderfinder projects to donate to, but every Pathfinder focused Kickstarter project has been successful raising money since Dec 10, 2010.  Even Sailing the Starlit Sea looks like it is going to be a success. Sounds crazy right? Or is it something else? A lot of people are starting to take notice of Kickstarter due to the amazing successes of The Order of the Stick Reprint Drive and Double Fine Adventure.  So if you are a 3PP and you make Pathfinder products, what have you been waiting for to start your own kickstarter project?  LPJ Design has a new kickstarter project, NeoExodus Adventure: Origin of Man for Pathfinder RPG, starting in less than a month and most likely are going to do a kickstarter project for the update release of the Obsidian Twilight game line, tentatively called Obsidian Evolved just in time for Halloween. Just something to think about next time you are not sure you want to try kickstarter.  Talk to you later...

LPJ Design Facebook membership drive and Obsidian Twilight Update

So I have decided that I am going to make the month of March the membership drive for the LPJ Design Facebook page. I know a lot of you who come to the blob site don't always make it over to our Facebook page which means you are missing out on some really cool stuff like original sketches and artwork, previews of upcoming products for example.  So take a second and head over to our Facebook page and "LIKE US" and be like all the cool kids in town.

I am also working on the update of Obsidian Twilight  which I am tentatively calling Obsidian Evolved. I have started on reworking the races and have completed the Exalted, Genesai, Infernals and Harrowed. They have been updated, slightly depowered in some case and brought more inline with Pathfinder racial constraints based on the upcoming Advanced Race Playtest and the Advanced Player's Guide.  Including finally giving Exalted the option to have wings if they want (what kind of angel hybrid doesn't have wings?) or a venomous bite attack for Infernals. This is going to be a lot of fun and I am thinking about doing something crazy like selling it to previous owner of Obsidian Twilight for $1 and the new Obsidian Evolved for only $5 for the first 30 days of sales. I am going to add new content including psionic rules set (based off of Dreamscarred Press' Psionics Unleashed) to make sure this feels perfectly like survival horror for Pathfinder done right.   I am planning on a October release just in time for Halloween.  Start saving your pennies be cause LPJ Design is very busy!  Talk to you later...

Working with Lance Red on NeoExodus

I had a phone call yesterday, well it was a Skype call, with the newest artist for LPJ Design, Lance Red, where we spoke about his artwork, character design style and contracts.  My friends over at Gamer Ingenuity told me about him and initially showed me some of his work.  After a little bit of time, I assigned him an initial piece and if these goes well (which I expect it will) this will be the beginning of a long profitable relationship for both of us. I love working with new artists in the RPG industry and helping them get the exposure to make them even bigger hits.  Everyone knows my relationship Anthony Cournoyer and all the great stock artwork he has done for RPG publishers. I think following Anthony's example is a great way for artists to be successful long term.  Talk to you later...

Working on the Crown Council for NeoExodus

So I have been working on the outline for the upcoming Secret Societies of NeoExodus: Crown Council.  This is going to be a fun books for me since I get to show a group can be dangerous in and out of combat, which only makes the role playing experience better.  I think the tag line of "The covert nature and dubious morality of many of these clandestine missions led to their being described as the Imperial Janissaries run by Section Omega" only adds to their mysteriousness and their ability to cross over so many areas of influence in NeoExodus makes them only more interesting. In addition, I finally finished the Crown Council's personal icon which you can tell draws influence from the Imperial Alliance icon.  Best of all I want to add an organizational / business / political structure system to the NeoExodus settign starting witht he book and it looks like with the help of Rite Publishing's Way of the Yakuza it might have found an easy way to do that. I guess Jonathan McAnulty will be getting a call from me soon.  Talk to you alter...

Look like I finally found the music for the Origin of Man Kickstarter Trailer

So after going around and around about what music I wanted to play in the background of the Origin of Man Kickstarter trailer, I finally found something I am happy with.  While I will not tell you WHO or WHAT the music is, I will tell you that it is a combination of industrial, acid house, techno, new beat and rave.  So just think about that for a while and start saving your money. March 15th is coming sooner than you think.  Talk to you later...

Remember that missed opportunity for Gamer Ingenuity I talked about?

Last week I told you about Paizo doing their Player Character Folio and how that was going to effect Gamer Ingenuity.  Now I read the thread over at Paizo, and I noticed that this product is going to have pockets, JUST LIKE Gamer Ingenuity's version.  WOW! Here is the comparison: Gamer Ingenuity's Complete Charcater Folio with 12 pages, interior pockets with no PDF for $7.95 OR Paizo's Player Character Folio with 16 pages, interior pockets, and PDF for $9.99. Which one are the one you think the Paizo fan base is going to buy?

Better yet, I have to figure the print cost of the Paizo sheet is going to be about 50 cents each (at the volume they will be printing) plus 25 cents each for development at production equals 75 cent to make.  So each one they sell direct they make $9.24 and each one they sell via store distribution they make $3.74.  A long time ago I head a rumor that a 3PP of OGL material sold over 30K unites of their OGL character folio and it was there best selling product of all time.  I am willing to bet Paizo sells a lot more than 30K.  I wonder if Paizo will thank Gamer  Ingenuity for doing the product testing for them on this product to see if doing it was viable? Something to think about next time you are developing a product.  Talk to you later...

3rd 4-star review for NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign Setting

It's a solid 4-star trifecta with our latest review for NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign Setting. I am glad to see this review was by the world famous Pathfinder reviewer Thilo Gaft. Even better, Thilo also placed the NeoExodus: A House Divided in his top 10 Pathfinder products for 2011 in Rite Publishing's Pathways #12. So as you can see this book is SOLID and ready for your players!  Make sure to pick up your copy of NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign Setting as soon as possible   Talk to you later...

Missed opportunity for Gamer Ingenuity that Paizo maximized...

My friends over at Game Ingenuity missed out on a perfect opportunity.  Back in October 2010 ( I think) they released the Complete Character Folio for Pathfinder.  The folio was well received by many and the price point seemed to be right.  But today while over at the Paizo site I noticed a new product had just been listed.    That's right, Paizo is coming out with their own Player Character Folio. And with that, the sales for Gamer Ingenuity's folio will most likely drop like a stone. One of the things that I suggested Gamer Ingenuity do is make the folio available to be downloaded for PDF. People had asked them to do it and they seemed to want it, but the guys at Gamer Ingenuity decided not to do it.  I see that as a lost opportunity to make money. And when you read the write up on Paizo's folio is that they ARE going to sell PDF versions of it.  Another thing I told them to do is get in contact with Paizo directly and see if they could get their folio named the exclusive folio for Pathfinder Society.  They didn't do it. Why I don't know.  But if had they been successful it would have been very profitiable.  They most likely missed out on some very high sales. Now from personal experience, I know that when Paizo makes a product very much in line with the product you are making, you are on the wrong side of the battle.  I have a feeling this will be the same thing for the guys at Gamer Ingenuity.  There is nothing worst this seeing a missed opportunity by one, get picked up and become a success for another.  That has to hurt a little.  Talk to you later...

If you are not using Kickstarter, READ THIS POST!

If you are STILL not sure about using Kickstarter after seeing the successes from Rite Publishing, Open Design and even us at LPJ Design, take a second and read through the updates for the Order of the Stick Reprint Drive.  If this doesn't get you motivated to start a Kickstaer project, nothing will.  Talk to you later...

[LPJ Design] Enemies of NeoExodus: Crimson Hand for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game

Louis Porter Jr. Design has released Enemies of NeoExodus: Crimson Hand for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game at RPGNow.com and DriveThruRPG.com.  Here is information on this product:

The First Ones were once the sole masters of the world of Exodus. They ruled with undisputed power, enslaving or dominating all other races and nations beneath their sorcerous grip.  Although their civilization has fallen, there are those who still desire to see these dark, ancient beings rise once more. The Crimson Hand is one of the final few bastions of First One power, a secret organization with its tendrils tightly wound around much of the world’s nobility. It is a long game they play, but one which they believe can only end with their eventual triumph, and the re-establishment of a new era of First One tyranny. This sourcebook comes equipped with:

·         History of the Crimson Hand
·         The Crimson Hand – Operation and Motives
·         Structure, Political and Intrigue Hooks of the Crimson Hand
·         Leadership of the Crimson Hand: Valos - leader of the group. Most powerful wizard (CR 10 & 20); Lucia - Valos’s apprentice and second in command (CR 9 & 17); Geist – Valos’s chief spy and an active tactician ( CR 7 & 14)
·         Enforcers of the Crimson Hand: Ashtalon  - The most powerful enforcer. Called to kill the most dangerous foes, usually when the situation has already gone out of ‘containment’ (CR 9 & 16); Sithuras – Enforcer tasked with property destruction, demolitions and the occasional murder (CR 9 & 16); Rigel – Master saboteur (CR 8 & 16); First-Of-Many – Scout and subtle assassin (CR 8 & 14); and Taskal – Messenger (CR 7 & 14)
·         Two new Prestige Classes: Crimson Hand Acolytes and Crimson Hand Enforcer.
·         Four all new Crimson Hand Feats
·         Seven all new Crimson Hand Spells
·         Initiative and Monster Cards

44 Days until the start of Origin of Man NeoExodus Adventure Kickstarter Project

Well I have started working on the images and the trailer for the NeoExodus Adventure Origin of Man Kickstarter project. The hard part for this one has been picking the rigth song to go with the trailer.  I normally pick the music first and then lay the movie to it.  I have listened to some new groups music that I have heard like Blue Stahli. I didn't know who they were but I knew their sound. I am still waiting for some more images to come in to add to the trailer. This one has a little different feeling then the last one we did, but I think it will be another success for us.  Just 44 more days to go.  Talk to you later...
