[LPJ Design] NeoExodus Chronicles: Psionic Cavian (PFRPG) released

The Reign of NeoExodus for the Pathfinder RPG continues here!

Louis Porter Jr. Design has released an exclusive product for the upcoming neo-fantasy punk setting gaming line, NeoExodus: A House Divided, NeoExodus Chronicles: Psionic Cavian (PFRPG).  Here is information on NeoExodus Chronicles: Psionic Cavian (PFRPG):
Creatures of myth, whispered in legend, lost in the mists of history – and now returned for reasons unknown to any but themselves. Such are the cavians, a race of humanoid rodents noted for their incredible psionic abilities. All Cavians have innate mental abilities, most often displayed in their hive mind ability.  Some Cavians, however, have innate psionic ability above and beyond this mental connection.  These Cavians are often more cerebral and logical, where their non-psionic brethren are more intuitive and instinctual in their abilities.  Although both psionic and non-psionic Cavians have similar abilities, the differences are enough that rivalries between the two breeds are not unknown.

This supplement includes:
  • All the information to play the Cavian using the Dreamscarred Press Psionic Unleashed rule set.
  • Racial Counters of the Cavian
  • Initiative and Monster Cards
Written by Joshua Cole, JP Chapleau, Jeremy Smity with Louis Porter Jr. This product is EXCLUSIVELY ONLY available only at LPJ Design website:  http://www.lpjdesign.com/cavian.html

[LPJ Design] Monster of NeoExodus: Fleshweaver is available

Louis Porter Jr. Design has released Monster of NeoExodus: Fleshweaver at RPGNow.com.  Here is information on this product:

As this hideous monstrosity comes into view it resembles that of a nightmarish aberration fusion of giant spider and centaur with a head of an insect.  Few monsters are more terrifying than the fleshweaver. The staccato clicking, insect-like sounds that accompany every movement of this creature can be extremely disquieting to anyone unaccustomed to them. Those who have the unfortunate pleasure of meeting a fleshweaver are usually never heard from again. When they are, only their skinless bodies are found. What happens to the skin of the victims of this evil fiend, only a few souls dare to guess.

This supplement includes:
  • Two new monsters the Fleshweaver, Fleshwaever Paragon and Gloambristle Fleshweaver
  • Background and history of the Fleshweaver
  • Fleshweaver Counters
  • Initiative and Monster Cards
This 8 page PDF is just the sort of thing needed for DMs to get started playing in the fantasy world of NeoExodus. Written by Richard Farrese and Benjamin Wenham with Louis Porter Jr. Available at RPGNow.com and available at Paizo.com!

Nothing really to talk about...except Facebook, Webcomics Weekly...

This has been a busy week on the personal life so I have not had a lot to say or focus on with this blog. But, I will do a little self pimping and ask you to join the Louis Porter Jr. Design Facebook page so you can learn some othering hat we don't put up here at our blog.  For example, yesterday I had a online development session with JP Chapleau of a new feat, Craft Magic Candle [Item Creation] and a new magic item, Magic Candles.  We had comments from Gary Ray of Black Diamond Games who go to give us input what he though.  All of these done in real time.  We will be doing more of that, so don't miss out. Also do yourself a favor and check out Webcomics.com and  Webcomics Weekly and listen to their (semi) weekly podcast of what is going on wiht the webcomic world, which has a lot of ideas that can be (and I have) used in the RPG PDF world.  Just some stuff to be helpful.  Talk to you later...

[LPJ Design] Monster of NeoExodus: Bilecrawler is available

Louis Porter Jr. Design has released Monster of NeoExodus: Bilecrawler at RPGNow.com.  Here is information on this product:

This worm-like creature’s long body ends in fleshy tendrils, uncoiling like bloated serpents tipped in barbed spines, surrounding a pink, bile-stinking orifice lined with rows of inward tilted fangs. The bilecrawler (also known as a bile wyrm for the gastrula stink it gives off) makes its lair in caves and dungeons, often burrowing into such places in search of water or prey. This wyrm is the bane of most subterranean humanoid races, being clever enough to tunnel around heavily defended guard positions and into living spaces and sleeping areas to feast upon the surprised inhabitants (most of whom are usually non-combatants). Many underground races have a number of folk tales regarding these monsters, most involve the wyrms having a taste for particularly unruly children. Real bilecrawlers don’t particularly care whether their meal has been naughty or nice.

This supplement includes:
  • Two new monsters the Bilecrawler and the Vilecrawler
  • Background and history of the Bilecrawler and the Vilecrawler
  • Bilecrawler Counters
  • Initiative and Monster Cards

This 9 page PDF is just the sort of thing needed for DMs to get started playing in the fantasy world of NeoExodus. Written By B. Matthew Conklin III and Tom Baumbach with Louis Porter Jr. Available at RPGNow.com!

$215 a month can get you a weekly webcomic series based off of your RPG setting...

So after thinking about it OVER and OVER again, I finally decided to crack down and actually find a way to make a weekly one-page webcomic based off of the NeoExodus setting. This will be picking up where we left off with Grand Theft Exodus which is basically the beginning. I have gotten the month budget of $215 (basically $50 a strip) to create a weekly series.  I am following the example of ATLAND By Nate Piekos as the template to create how Grand Theft Exodus will work.  I am a fan of Nate's font site Blambot and what he has done with Atland looks to be a good starting point for me.  I don't think with a $50 a page budget that find an artist who works in the style I would like to see as being difficult.  Making sure their work is consist and they are available will be the harder part to this but I just have to find the right artist(s) for Grand Theft Exodus.  I would like to have the webcomic start running by August but we will have to see what is really possible.  Is this transmedia? It theory, yes. I just call it, "Living out my dreams".  Talk to you later...

Full color 32 page RPG books for $13.99 and 64 pages for $19.99 look to be int LPJ Design future...

After going over the numbers again and AGAIN, I have finally come to the conclusion that selling full color print-on-demand books at RPGNow.com is not only possible, it is financially profitable.  Best of all, doing a 20 page full color book would be profitable, with a few changes and modifications in design and layout.  Now that I know that when can you expect to see full color version of our products.  Lets just say this will be a busy weekend.  Talk to you later...

Maybe you missed this: Diamond Distributors Offers In-Store Digital Sales

Ok here is a little new report that came out on Wednesday, Diamond Distributors Offers In-Store Digital Sales, that I hope a lot of you saw.  If you didn't take a second and go read it it is kind of important to the future of electronic distribution of comics and even RPG material.  Now after you read that, go over to Webcomics Weekely and check out episode #76 podcast on this same subject.  As I have been talking about this topic for nearly 6 years, it is nice to know that someone has finally build a system where digital products can be sold at a retail location.  While I hope it would have been One Book Shelf to jump all over this one, it looks like the big gun of Diamond Distribution (also owner of Alliance Game Distributor) has taken the lead on this.  While thise my not be profitable for everyone in the comic and RPG industry, there are a few that will do very well with this change.  Basically this is a variation of the Bit and Mortar program done right for the 21st century.   Go to the retailer and he will take car of you, with actual and now virtual products and the money pie for products get slit even further.  But the funny part is, NO ONE (in the RPG industry at least) IS TALKING ABOUT THIS!!!! This could be as big a change to the RPG industry as RPGNow was. Selling digital content to retailers, if done right, could be good for both sides.  Let's see what happens.  Talk to you later...

[LPJ Design] Secret Societies of NeoExodus: Section Omega (PFRPG) released

The Reign of NeoExodus for the Pathfinder RPG continues here!

Louis Porter Jr. Design has released its next product, Secret Societies of NeoExodus: Section Omega (PFRPG), for use with the upcoming neo-fantasy punk setting gaming line, NeoExodus: A House Divided.  Here is information on the Secret Societies of NeoExodus: Section Omega (PFRPG):

The people of modern Exodus fear and distrust psionic powers and those with it.  The psion’s ability to read or even control minds without even the scant visible trappings of wizardry - the wilder’s unpredictable and spontaneous destructive powers - these mind-spawned mysteries are the stuff of nightmares for common folk from the Wyldlands of Bal to the deserts of Cordel.  Even the widely respected, psionics-using Janissaries of the Imperial Alliance have not been able to dispel such superstitious fears - perhaps because the superstitions are all too often justified. Eventually, the Imperial Alliance with the help of Imperial Senate created an organization to address those fears - and to bring to heel those mentalists who misused their gifts. Thus was born Section Omega - the Imperial Alliance’s regulatory and investigatory body for psionic affairs.

This supplement includes:
  • History of Section Omega, Section Omega today and Section Omega Headquarters
  • Section Omega Membership and Methods
  • Section Omega Against Monsters, in the Outer World and in the Shadows
  • New Prestige Class: Id Hunter and Psychic Overseer
  • Magic and Psionic Items including Id Weapons, Psychic Halo and Psychic Restrains
  • Over 25 Feats including Crystal Psiweapon, Enhanced Psi-Like Abilities, Layered Psionic Defense, Psionic Deflection, Psionic Rejuvenation and Vampire Mind.
Written by Joshua Cole and Leland Schaidle with Jeremy Smith and Louis Porter Jr. Available Here!!!

Looking at the hard PDF RPG publishing data...

For those that are interested in the busines side of the PDF RPG industry, you should take a look at the following two post.  The first post is from Rite Publishing with Book of Monster Templates 1st Quarter Sales Numbers. The next one is from Jon Brazer Enterprises with Pathfinder: Book of Beasts Sales Numbers. I told Steve over at Rite Publishing privately and now I am telling you publicly, I don't think it is a good idea to give out numbers like this.  While it is nice what they did, That kind of info is just for you.  But if you are interested on the business side of things this is something you should take a look at.  Talk to you later...

Sometime you have to answer the tough question...

I saw this blog post over at Malcom Sheppard blog, Mob United.   After after reading through the massive amount of responses, I came up with a little comment of my own: I will be quick about this one and ask you the real important question on this topic: If you’re so smart, why aren’t you rich?

Mr. Malcom response to this was: I just can’t bear to pay douchebag rates, Lou.

OK let's take a second.... You're not rich because, "I just can’t bear to pay douchebag rates, Lou.".  Remember when I wrote the blog post Be careful of the “successful” business advice you get even when it’s someone you trust, including me…, well this is one of those moments.  Talk to you later...

Things you need to know and understand about NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign setting Part 8

All Game Masters and every player should bear in mind and take into consideration these important facts about the world of Exodus and the setting of NeoExodus: A House Divided.

8. If it exists in the realm of classic or traditional fantasy setting of Pathfinder, then it has a place in Exodus. A monster or spell or magic item from the Pathfinder core rulebooks might feature a manipulation or two to explain for attitude, character and tone of Exodus, but otherwise everything in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook, Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Bestiary, GameMastery Guide and Advanced Player's Guide has a place somewhere in Exodus.

Should LPJ Design to do "No Frills" editions for their campaign settings?

People always seem to complain about the price of PDFs. I don’t understand why, since most of them are relatively VERY cheap. Modern Warfare 2 has a price of $59.99 and then you have to pay more to get all the online bells and whistles. People complain, but Modern Warfare 2 went on to sell 7 million copies in one day. So shelling out $5 for a PDF doesn’t really seem that bad. Let’s just face it, gamers are cheap and we all know it. No need at trying to sugar coat it, we like the cheap stuff. Price has been and will be an issue for life. $50 rulebooks don’t help but you can get the PDF for only $9.99 that is a nice trade off. But since this is an issue, I have been thinking of ways to handle this and I think I may have come up with an answer.

The most reasonable idea that I have come up with is doing a “No Frills” version of the PDF. And when I say “No Frills” I mean “No Frills”. No Artwork at all. No fancy border design on the page. No fancy type faces. The cover has the logo and the words “No Frills Edition” under it. Nothing to make the product look what I would consider to be “graphical exciting”. Just black ink on a white page. And best of all the product would be only 4.99. That is “No Frills”. I think this is a good idea and would work on some customers of you who just want the info and don’t care about the design elements. So tell me what you think. Is this a good idea or any I just crazy? Talk to you later…

Things you need to know and understand about NeoExodus: A House Divided Campaign setting Part 7

All Game Masters and every player should bear in mind and take into consideration these important facts about the world of Exodus and the setting of NeoExodus: A House Divided.

7. Exodus is a world built on conspiracies, deceptions and intrigue. Empires and nations compete on many levels—economic, political influence, territory, magical power—each looking to maintain or improve its current status by any means short of all-out war. Subversive clandestine meetings, espionage, back market deals and sabotage are all basic parts of doing business in Exodus. Large numbers of organizations, nations and factions maneuver or manipulate for their own benefit in the current rapidly changing political climate. Exodus teems with conflict and intrigue.
