[LPJ Design] FREE World of Obsidian Twilight (PRPG) Preview released

Louis Porter Jr. Design, has released its world setting preview for the upcoming post apocalyptic survival horror fantasy setting, Obsidian Twilight for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Here is information on the World of Obsidian Twilight (PRPG) Preview:

From out of the dark and forbidding heavens a great meteor, black as night itself, carved through Abaddon’s atmosphere , calved into massive sections and rained down upon the world in great shards. It obliterated cities, shattered the living rock, sent tidal waves swamping over islands and drowning the coasts, ignited volcanoes and set the ground quaking for more than a year. Over 85% of the sentient population of Abaddon was killed in moments and no sorcery, no prayer, no force of arms nor cunning with the builder’s craft could stand against the destruction. Those who survived found themselves in the ruins of civilization, surrounded by the corpses of their nations, overwhelmed by death and living beneath a sootblack sky. Their suffering did not end there.

Creative Imprint Agency: Now are two...

Looks like the concept of the Creative Imprint Agency is growing.  Now it looks like the Creative Imprint Agency will be expanding to two of us.  I wonder who will be the third and fourth to join this idea?  The question you have to ask is, what is the Creative Imprint Agency? More to come. Talk to you later...

[Bleeping] Ken [Bleeping] Whitman!!! Are you [Bleeping] kidding me!!! [A Rant by LPJ]

I got this email in my Facebook account a few days ago from [Bleeping] Ken [Bleeping] Whitman:

Hey Louis, I am getting ready to start helping people create their own Publishers POD. The cost of getting your own equipment has come way down. If this sounds interesting to you let me know and I can send you an e-mail with more details. - Thanx Ken

Now I refer to [Bleeping] Ken [Bleeping] Whitman this way, because [Bleeping] Ken [Bleeping] Whitman is a complete [Bleeping] [Bleep]-clown. If you are involved in RPG publishing and you meet up with [Bleeping] Ken [Bleeping] Whitman, RUN don’t walk but RUN the other way. His reputation and actions in this industry are well known and documented. Giving [Bleeping] Ken [Bleeping] Whitman money for anything is like giving money to a crackhead who say he needs it for food. [Bleeping] Ken [Bleeping] Whitman is a lying, deceitful, [Bleeping] useless, [Bleeping] snake oil salesman that I hope goes to prison for [Bleeping] fraud and catches [Bleeping] [Bleep] and eye cancer!

[Bleeping] Ken [Bleeping] Whitman is a "friend" on Facebook so I can see what scam he will pull and warn people who might deal with him. If you shake hands with [Bleeping] Ken [Bleeping] Whitman make sure to count your fingers to make sure you go all of them back. [Bleeping] Ken [Bleeping] Whitman and his Rapid POD business made promises he didn't keep, cost me money, so we will never due business together. The only person lower than [Bleeping] Ken [Bleeping] Whitman in my book is Gary “Hive” Simpson and that is saying a lot. That is all I have to say on this subject. I don’t want to waste any more time on him. Talk to you later…

From out of the dark and forbidding heavens a great meteor, black as night itself, carved through Abaddon’s atmosphere , calved into massive sections and rained down upon the world in great shards. From these ashes came the race that would eventually dominated the landscape of Abaddon. Coming Soon...

[LPJ Design] FREE Races of Obsidian Twilight: Raijin (PRPG) Preview released

Louis Porter Jr. Design, has released its final preview for the upcoming post apocalyptic survival horror fantasy setting, Obsidian Twilight for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Here is information on the Races of Obsidian Twilight: Raijin (PRPG) Preview:

The necrotic energy of the meteor combined with the huge number of casualties from the impact and its aftermath has meant an enormous amount of spiritual energy has encompassed Abaddon. This, in turn, means a tremendous number of ghosts arisen over time. In the beginning many of these were mindless spectres, the traumatised dead from what seemed like the end of the world but over time these have been winnowed down and replaced with the new dead. Those who have died in more recent times are not the confused and sorrowful dead of the cataclysm. Those who have died in this new age are the victims of the undead lords and, while dead themselves, they have little or no sympathy for the liches, vampires, ghasts and other dead that form the new aristocracy. What has caused these dead to linger on in the world is their mistreatment at the hands of the powers that be and their desire for bloody and violent revenge, goals that they share with many of the living.

Should LPJ Design buy the rights for the Razor Coast setting from Sinister Adventure and release it?

Before we answer the question that was asked with the title of this post, I must say that I have a large amount of respect for Nick Logue, Sinister Adventure and what his plans are with Razor Coast. I can’t wait to see what he has planned.

Now since all the niceties are over, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. Razor Coast sounded like a great idea from the start. I liked everything that Nick had planned to do with this setting he was developing. It was going o be great to see what Nick had planned. So I waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. But after waiting a year I think Nick might be underwater with this project. There are a lot of reasons why this might of happened but it doesn’t matter. What matters is how can this incredible project get on the market? So we go back to the title of this post: Should LPJ Design buy the rights for the Razor Coast setting from Sinister Adventure and release it?

While I don’t think Nick will actually sell LPJ Design the rights to do Razor Coast, (If you are interested Nick send me an email) I would like to do whatever I can to help this project move along. Just let me know what I can personally do to help get this project back on track and out to the fans of your work (Which does include me.) Hope to hear from you soon. Talk to you later…

Should LPJ Design partner with small and start-up RPG Companies?

I have been in the RPG business for a long time and I really enjoy helping smaller companies becoming bigger companies and one of the best ways I have found that is a business partner with a smaller RPG company. With my contacts in the business I can turn a start-up into a successful company in no time flat. Normally instead of getting upfront money so many have done in the past, often take a percentage of their sales and go from there. It is the best way for a company who is just getting off the ground, to get more exposure and MONEY than they would do with themselves. So if you are looking to break in the RPG business you should give me a call or email and create a partnership with LPJ Design. Talk to you later…

[LPJ Design] FREE Races of Obsidian Twilight: Infernal (PRPG) Preview released

Louis Porter Jr. Design, has released its next preview for the upcoming post apocalyptic survival horror fantasy setting, Obsidian Twilight for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Here is information on the Races of Obsidian Twilight: Infernal (PRPG) Preview:

Infernals are the offspring of matings between demonic outsiders and humanity upon Abaddon or the result of a tainted bloodline throwing up a child that bears the mark of a past transgression of natural law. Infernals are relatively common on Abaddon, given the nature of the world, its status as a planar ‘trap’ and the natural proclivities of the demons who find themselves here, trapped, frustrated and with only limited playthings to assuage their boredom. Infernals are the cast-off offspring of these bored demons and succubi and there are a great many of them, perpetuating their numbers through their own intermarriage and the strength of demonic blood that has now entered the mainstream bloodlines of many mortal communities. Self-reliant and cynical the Infernals are often shapers, doers, makers, ambitious and defiant, channeling the rebellion and strength of their demonic heritage to force their way up and out and to make their mark upon the world.

Reaction to Joe the Lawyer's Really Funny Comment on Joe Goodman's Post

During the comments on EN World about Goodman Games, Joe the Lawyer brought us this little oldie but a goodie from Goodman Games past. EnWorld did not like what he did (He place the actual post from Goodman Games on the ENWorld site and they took down the post) and Plane Sailing (Enworld Admin) comment as so:

Joe, this is neither big nor clever. If the mods have deleted it, linking to it in this way is thumbing your nose at them. Welcome to a six day ban.

Now the question I have to ask is why did they take down the post in the first place? I don't understand why, but it is their site and they can do what ever they want.  But, don't worry Joe the Lawyer because LPJ Design and the In The Mind of a Mad Man Blog will be holding a candlelight vigil until your return to EN World. We know it will be hard to go with out access the cutting edge resources and intellectually stimulating conversations of of EN World but, do your best to hold on. I know it will be tough.

We will be praying for you during the time you are away...

Talk to you later...

Sounds like the 4E gravy train has slowed: Goodman Games may support The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game?

I saw this over at Paizo’s boards and I have to just say it, this is totally revisionist history BULLSHIT! After telling everyone how good sale are with 4E, you NOW want to support Pathfinder? OK, let’s take this one step at a time…

“2001-2004: 80%+ of RPG'ers were playing 3E. “

OK This is true.

“2004-2005: Some gamers fell off between 3E and 3.5, but still 75% playing 3.5. “

OK this is true.

“2005-2007: D20 variants multiply. Mutants & Masterminds, Iron Heroes, Arcana Evolved, Castles & Crusades, Conan, others. Most of the market is playing some version of 3E, but it's no longer all D&D. Various d20 publishers begin to release their own stand-alone RPG's (e.g., Runequest).”

This is true and don’t forget you are part of this group who wanted to develop your own D20 variant system. Does Wicked Fantasy Factory, Etherscope, DragonMech or Xcrawl ring a bell?

“2008: Most, but not all, of the RPG market converts to 4E. Market is now split between 4E and many varieties of 3E holdouts. Other systems proliferate, including Hackmaster Basic and the 1E retro-clones. "Old-school" goes mainstream. Goodman Games remains the only "d20 company" still primarily supporting WotC D&D.”

I am sorry but WTF?!?!??!?!?! Only “D20 Company” still primarily supporting WotC D&D. Joseph, I respect you as a business man and gamer, but that is complete bullshit and you know it. When you heard about 4E you we down with WOTC quicker than a $2 whore. Looks like some revisionist history bullshit to me.

“2009: Pathfinder releases. Fantasy RPG market is now split between 4E and Pathfinder, with another big chunk split to the other stand-alone RPG's (Castles & Crusades, Runequest, Fantasycraft, upcoming Dragon Age, etc.), and another chunk shopping online in the retro-clone market (which I personally have a fondness for). “

…And with that split, Paizo got support from several third party publishers who saw that Paizo did actually like it customers and third party publishers. What a crazy concept. Anyone willing to sign the 1st GSL? Anyone?

“2010: What's a module publisher to do?”

Well I supported 3.5 and then Paizo and Pathfinder, so I don’t have to ask this question. I just put out product.

“My primary love remains adventures, but the market is so fragmented that the customers who played DCC modules in 2004 are now playing 6 different systems.”

CRAP!! See this is the part that makes me laugh, those people were playing those systems back then in 2004 too. It is just you were making so much money with 3.5 you didn’t care about them. Now that 4E didn’t make the splash that you planned on and committed your entire company’s future to, you have to do some back pedaling to keep that cashflow going.

“Here's something I've been thinking about. What if a DCC were written in "native 4E" but there were downloads to support other systems? Or...what if the DCC had generic stats ("Orc, 6 hp, axe, chainmail")...and ALL detailed stats were available as a download? So if you play 4E you download the 4E stats PDF...if you play Pathfinder you download the Pathfinder stats PDF...etc. Tell me what you think.”

I think you made a mistake by supporting WOTC so early with 4E. I think you went full board with them trying to grab a section of the market. I think your sales were not what you expected, plus WOTC leaving RPGNow and the US recession didn’t help Goodman’s cashflow. 2010 looks a lot different then you though it would in 2007. I think it is a good thing long term for the industry if Goodman Games supports Paizo and Pathfinder. But don’t give me this revisionist history bullshit. You made a business decision, supported someone and it didn’t work out as you planned. Now you have changed your mind and want to make some money supporting something else. Stop trying to put a spin doctor on this and just be truthful on this. We have all made mistakes on who or what we supported in business, including me. Build a bridge and get over it. Talk to you later…
