[NeoExodus: A House Divided] The Phoenix Guard sketch

Just so you know, I am going a head with the character design work for the Phoenix Guard soldier for the "hopeful" upcoming adventure series, Insurrection: The Rise of the Phoenix Guard. I am hoping to get the Werecabbages working on this and making out own adventure path series out of it. It still is in the deverlopment stages, but I don't care I think this is going to be BIG and COOL so just hang on. Coming soon ... maybe. Talk to you later.

Obsidian Twilight: See I am actually working on it...

Just to prove to many of you that we have not stopped working on Obsidian Twilight, here is the free race that we are planning to give away BEFORE we release the PDF and core suppliment. Somehting to get you interested in what we are doing. Now I have to admit something, I said a while back that I would not be doing animal races in this setting. I totld you that I would not do it. Well I tried and tried but one race kept popping its head up. It was the werewolf. In a setting like this, they are basically standard. So I am breaking my own rule and creating werewolves (in Obsidian Twilight we call them Lykian. Hello Underworld 1, 2 &3) as a PC race. Here is what we have so far, stat wise:

  • +2 Dexterity, -2 Intelligence, -2 Charisma. A Lykian’s fundamental bestial nature causes them to suffer in both their social interaction and reasoning ability and their physical abilities are increased. (0 points - I am using the Race Creation Cookbook for balance.)
  • Medium: As Medium creatures, Lykians have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
  • Lykians base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Low-Light Vision: A Lykians can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. He retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions. (8 points)
  • Leaping: Lykians gains a +8 racial bonus to all jump checks. Lykians are not subjects to limitations on distance for their high or long jumps and jumping through occupied squares does not provoke attacks of opportunity unless the opposition is flying. (11 points)
  • Racial Skills: A Lykian’s animalistic heritage enhances many of her physical skills giving them a +2 racial bonus on Climb and Survival checks: (8 points)
  • Vulnerability to Silver: Nauseated 1d3 rounds. (-7 points)
  • Lesser Vulnerability to Cold Iron: Sickened 1d3 rounds. (-5 points)
  • Automatic Languages: Lykian and Common. Bonus Languages: Elven, Halfling, and XXXXXX.

Now using the Race Creation Cookbook point system, I still have more than 40 points to spend to make them LA +1. So I need to add in some cool things but I am not sure here are a few ideas I have so far:

  • Diseased bite: Not the typical lycanthrope disease something a little more exotic and deadly.
  • Regeneration: Always fun with Trolls.
  • Shapechanger Subtype: Lykian are humanoids with the shapechanger subtype.
  • Trackless: Lykian can move through any type of terrain--mud, snow, dust, etc.--and leave neither footprints nor scent. Thus, tracking a Lykian is impossible by normal means.

Maybe more to come or something even crazier. Who knows. Talk to you later...

What's it's like to work for me...

A new writer just started working for me, just sent over his first written project. I don't think the work was up to par. Here are some of my editorial comments about the work:
  • "Way to powerful for a 1st level feat. Rethink or create a new one from scratch.
  • "Where is the game mechanic with this feat? Why could this be done better with a skill roll?"
  • "Seen this one a million time. Rethink of create a new one from scratch."
  • "Boring!!!!! Need to rethink or create a new one from scratch."
  • "Reflecting spell at 3rd level, doesn’t that seem a little powerful to you?"
  • "OK, but not really exciting."
  • "Not exciting. Need to rethink or create a new one from scratch."
I sent it back to him with a lot more comments. He has some work ahead of him. And you want to be a RPG writer? Talk to you later...

Initiative Cards make the task of keeping track of initiative in fantasy combats easy by providing a place for the GMs to record all the information about the player characters and their opponents that the GM needs during play. Initiative Cards are an essential tool for tracking combat and gaming. No longer will you have to remember what the stats, attack or special abilities of a PC in the gaming party, the Initiative Cards have all that information there. Every GM that plays The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game should be using the Initiative Cards in their local gaming sessions and campaigns.

What more do you need to understand about having a good business...

My ideal business person is Warren Buffet. There is NO ONE smarter and better understands what being in business about. If you don't understand what you business should be like here is a quote from him that defines it for me: "I’ll tell you why I like the cigarette business. It costs a penny to make. Sell it for a dollar. It’s addictive. And there’s fantastic brand loyalty." While I am against smoking this is the defiantion of business perfection. Talk to you later...

Storage space comes full circle ... on computers...

In 1994, I bought an Iomega Zip Drive that would hold 150 megs for $150. Which is $1 per megabyte. In 2009, I plan to buy an Iomega External Hard Drive that would hold 1.5 Terabytes megs for $150. Which is $1 per 10 gigabytes or 1 cent per 100 megabytes or 1/100th of a cent per megabyte.

If you follow this formula by 2024 you will have 2.25 exabyte hard drives for $150. Data on Star Trek was built with an ultimate storage capacity of 100 petabytes. One exabyte is 1,000 petabytes. I wonder if that will be "infinite storage"? Talk to you later...

Well I think it is funny...

I am not going to Gen Con ... what a surprise..

I stopped going to Gen Con a few years back. I liked going to Gen Con when I lived in Indiana but now...not so much. Everytime I have been, it was for business and I did well cash wise. But afte I became a PDF publisher and focused on POD, I never really felt the need to sell my product in the traditional fashion of print 2,000 copies pay for everthing up front, ship it to the con, hope to sell them all, then ship back the remaining. Most likely after everything was said and done, you would make enough money to break even, if you were lucky. Why the hell would I do that? That sounds like a bad business idea to me.

Plus with only a little over 25,000 people showing up (San Diego Comic Con had 125,000, WizardWorld Chicago had 60,000), it never seemed worth the cost to go there. While this will be a big date with the release of Paizo's Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, it is not enough to draw me out to Indianapolis in August. Some company I know swear by going to it and say it is there biggest event all year where they make most of their money. I say it is scary to depend on one convention to make most of your money. God forbid something bad happens like your products don't make it their for some reason. So fo all you that are going enjoy your time. I will be at home saving that money to purchase my new house. Talk to you later...

So what is going on with Obsidian Twilight...

OK, I think I need to talk about Obsidian Twilight and what is going on with it. It is kind of a Good News / Bad News situation.

Good News: I have gotten a lot of good feedback on people donating blood for this project. For all of you who have done it or are planning to do it, Thank you. You are saving a life.

Bad News: Well we are kind of at a deadstop stand still. Bad US economy. Low sales at all the PDF sale websites for business cashflow. Writer and artistis issues. Just about everything that can go wrong on this project has. So I have been working on it all myself pushing it along SLOWLY. Now with the added work of Grand Theft Exodus, Obsidian Twilight has moved down in priority. BUT HAVE NO FEAR!!! We are putting out Obsidian Twilight. It might take longer then planned, BUT IT IS COMING OUT. So don't worry. Thanks for your support. Talk to you later...
