Hardest job in RPG Publishing: Finding good artists

I have the worlds greatest artist who works for me, Anthony. Anthony is a true "professional artist" in the realm of RPG publishing. He does what he says he going to do and better yet, he does it on time. There are not a lot of guys like Anthony and that is a problem. In such a creative industy, you think you would have many quality professional artistic people, but you don't. So finding new ones who are "professionals" is a never ending job. And that takes away time when I could be working on something important, like new Sidetrek Adventure Weekly ideas or NeoExodus: A House Divided projects. Talk to you later...I have to look for more artists.

[LPJDesign] 4th Edition Compatible logo created for support of 3rd Party Publishers

With all the recent changes due to the release of 4e, the GSL and the OGL, we here at Louis Porter Jr. Design have decided to create an all new 4th Edition System Compatible logo which can be used by any and all 3rd party RPG publisher, completely and absolutely free of charge, with any of their products that they wish to support the 4th Edition of the world most popular RPG, but not the GSL in a similar fashion to Kenzer & Company and Adamant Entertainment recent 4th Edition release.

The reason for this new 4th Edition System Compatible logo is the basic failure of the GSL and it use, unify and support of the 3rd party RPG Publishers who wish do to 4th Edition System Compatible material but do not support the GSL. This logo; as in similar fashion with the OGL 3.5 System Compatible logo; easily brands and makes 4th Edition System Compatible material easy to identify with this logo so people can tell on sight what gaming system they are supporting. The initial concept of the OGL was to make the gaming industry stronger by making it possible for more people to create and make products to support the concepts of the OGL.

With the release of 4e and the GSL, many 3rd party RPG publishers have decided to forgo the GSL completely make 4th Edition System Compatible material without use of the GSL. And with the limiting nature of the GSL in its current form, it has caused the creation of this new 4th Edition System Compatible logo.

This logo has bee created in several graphic formats including Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Illustrator EPS, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop JPEG and TIFF. Each of these formats comes with three different versions: color, Grayscale and Black and White. A complete zip file containing all these logos can be downloaded directly from this link.

We hope that any and all 3rd party publishers who create 4th Edition System Compatible material to use the 4th Edition System Compatible logo use and support this initiative. The survival and advancement of the RPG hobby as a whole is the goal that many of us strive for. As I stated before, this isn’t the first time David has gone after Goliath and attempted something amazing. Thank you for this support!

LPJ Design 2008 Second Quarter Report

The second quarter of 2008 is over and it is a crazy time for RPG publishers. 4E has just been released. The GSL has just been released. Companies are scrambling what to do and who to support, but at LPJ Design, it is business as usual. Right off the bat, 4E has affected us as it has affected EVERYONE who sells RPGs. Are sales off a little due to 4E? Well of course they are. Hell they spent a year promoting 4E, I hope WOTC would make some money off of it. So saying 4E was a huge success (whatever that really means) is like saying water is wet. That’s kind of common sense, right? Hey, give me one-tenth of the budget they spent on their marketing of 4E and let’s see if I could be a “success”.

The first Sidetrek Adventure Weekly series has finished and we are off to the second one; The Undead Chronicles. The Undead Chronicles has gotten so much interest and people signing up for the subscription service, we have already announced our third Sidetrek Adventure Weekly series; The Empire of Tears! With all the great work Werecabbage Publishing has done on this with series, lead by the amazing leadership of Line Editor Greg Oppedisano, we fell the Sidetrek Adventure Weekly series and brand will be a continued success for years to come. We hope to expand the Sidetrek Adventure Weekly brand into other genres including superheroes, espionage and sci-fi. Plus, we have also released the “dead tree” collected edition of the first series called Sidetrek Adventure Weekly Present: The Trodoon Gate Sage available exclusively at LPJDesign.com.

On the NeoExodus: A House Divided front, Line Editor Neal Bailey is working on some really innovative products to be released for the second part of 2008. Neal is well known in the RPG gaming community working for such successful companies including Fifth Element Games, Old Kingdom Games and RPGObjects, in addition to his work on the Race Creation Cookbook and the Prestige Class Creation Cookbook for us. Neal finished the first two projects, the Enemies of NeoExodus: The Folding Circle and Lexicon Chronicles: Arcane Intelligence. We are just waiting for the artwork from Anthony Cournoyer and once we get the artwork, these products should be hitting the digital shelves of RPGNow.com very soon.

We had a very successful promotion with Wolfgang Baur’s Kobold Quarterly #4, where customers received the FREE BONUS GIFT of Enemies of NeoExodus: Folding Circle – Brothers-In-Arms. This 9-page supplement focuses on 2 NPC associates of the upcoming Enemies of NeoExodus: Folding Circle, which reveals the history of the greatest and most powerful criminal/terrorist organization in the NeoExodus: A House Divided setting. This giveaway has exposed even more people to the NeoExodus: A House Divided setting.

LPJ Design has always listened to our fans and supporters to make the best quality products possible. We have made numerous business alliances with several of the well-known and respected 3.5 OGL companies in the market today. In the next few months, we will be making announcements on several very influential business partnerships we have formed with other 3.5 OGL publishers.

This has been a good business building quarter for LPJ Design and only helps us to be stronger in the future. Thanks for your support and check out our online store at http://lpjdesign.rpgnow.com/.

Refocusing on NeoExodus

As of late I have been working a a few projects for NeoExodus: A House Divided with the Line Editor, Neal Bailey. We have 3 to 6 project that are somewhere in limbo due to the fact of missing artwork and interest in 4E. Now I will say I have seen 4E effect my sales, but at the same time there people who still want to play 3.5/OGL material. So I want to wait until August to start releasing these projects and that will get me through the rest of the year on projects. Now I can go back to working on my 4 new races for NeoExodus: A House Divided. These will be fun. Talk to you later...

Sidetrek Adventure Weekly 3 = Sinestro Corp. War

I have been thinking about what we are doing with Sidetrek Adventure Weekly 3: Empire of Tears. This is a complete homage to Geoff Johns Sinestro Corp. War. I feel RPG adventures are like single issue of comic books, read then easily forgotten. Too many adventures are just "throw away" kinds of things. This is the reason why I did Sidetrek Adventure Weekly. The SAWs were to be short fun and help move the story along to a incredible climax. With SAW 3: Empire of Tears, I am attempting my version of Tomb of Horrors. This SAW will be more then dangerous, this will be deadly to all, for all kinds of reasons. We are going all out with this one, creating all new monsters and lots of cool stuff for PCs and GMs. This is going to be the biggest SAW so far. Talk to you later...
